Jakarta, Indonesia — In a landmark initiative for global cooperation, the Indonesia Dispute Board (IDB/DSI) successfully co-hosted and led the Asia-Africa International Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Forum 2025, marking a major milestone in advancing international mediation and arbitration collaboration between the two fastest-growing continents.
The prestigious event, held at Dirgantara University Marshal Suryadarma (UNSURYA) in Jakarta, brought together key institutions including the Cambodian Center for Mediation (CCM), Tanzania Institute of Arbitrators (TIArb), Asian International Dispute Resolution Association (AIDRA), and the India International Arbitration Center (IIAC).
This historic forum carried the theme “Shaping the Future of ADR in Asia-Africa: The Collaborative Approach,” emphasizing the importance of unity, professionalism, and knowledge exchange in strengthening alternative dispute resolution mechanisms across Asia and Africa.
“Alternative Dispute Resolution is a vital pillar of a fair and transparent justice system,” stated the IDB leadership. “However, to ensure its success, ADR needs strong regulatory frameworks, competent mediators and arbitrators, and consistent legal standards.”
Throughout the forum, delegates and experts shared best practices, discussed reforms, and highlighted the need to enhance ADR awareness in business, community, and governmental sectors.
As a major outcome, participants agreed to establish the Asia-Africa International Mediation and Arbitration Chamber (AAIMAC) — a new cross-border platform designed to unite mediators and arbitrators from Asian and African nations.
The newly established chamber will:
Collaborate with mediation and arbitration institutions across both continents to build professional capacity and strengthen ADR networks.
Administer mediation and arbitration cases for both commercial and non-commercial disputes.
Publish a comprehensive list of qualified mediators and arbitrators representing various Asian and African countries.
The creation of the Asia-Africa International Mediation and Arbitration Chamber marks a pivotal step toward enhancing global dispute resolution cooperation — fostering transparency, professionalism, and fairness while bridging the legal and business communities of Asia and Africa.
